I was out at his house yesterday and the weather was beautiful, Basil and I went on a walk up the hill and found a deer antler and I listened to records and drew on the front porch while Ben worked on a chair he's making.
Anyway, I have to go to work now.
I have an appointment with a temp agency this week to hopefully find a better paying job or part time employment. Anything because I'm drowning.

Shivaratri is Shiva's day where the people worship Shiva and fast all night until morning when they break their fast. They worship Shiva by performing pujas. We stayed for about 2 1/2 hours so we were there just for the first puja.
To do a puja there is an appointed holy person who directs you. The person will tie a red string around your wrist- right hands for men and unmarried ladies and on the left for married women. I guess since I was with Ben they figured I was married. They also put a rudraksha seed on a string around your neck. That is symbolic because it is said that a rudraksha tree sprang up from Shivas tears.
You kneel with this person and standardly they will have you wash your hands by putting a little dipper of water over your hands. Then they give you milk or yoghurt or honey to annoint the Shiva Lingham. After that you annoint it with water and use your right hand ring finger to put this sort of clay on it. It seemed like sandalwood to me but traditionally it's vermillion or a mixture of honey and ghee and milk... After that you put flowers on the ligham. There are variations- we annointed a few different linghams and on some we sprinkled crushed flowers and on one we placed big flowers and offered fruit which was blessed and given back to us.
In the first puja they use milk, so that's what we used, but on one outdoor lingham- the huge Shiva Lingham they had imported from India we did yoghurt as well.
Anyway during the pujas everyone sits around a fire and throws rice into it as a offering to Agni the god of fire. Everyone chants songs and they are really into it. As the songs progress they get louder and faster with drums and bells and a little horn of some sort and everyone claps and sometimes they dance or stand up (sitting for a long time is hard.) I couldn't understand what the songs were about except that they were about or for Shiva. I could have had a handout but I was enjoying myself without one.
Everyone was in a good mood and friendly and Ben's friend George and his wife and kids were there. The kids were having a lot of fun dancing and ringing the bell. There were a lot of people there for it being so rainy out and there was a diverse mixture of people too. Even though we had to kind of hike up to the temple in the mud and rain it was worth it and I wasn't in a bad mood about it (I hate being wet and cold.) They even gave us tea to drink on the way back to the truck.
Anyway it was really nice and we are going to go back sometime.

So my weekend has been nice. Friday night Luke, Jeni, Ben and I had plans to see Coraline in 3d but Luke got the flu, so Ben and I get to Edwards and find out that their websites has the wrong movie times on it. Lame. So we watched SlumDog Millionaire which I wanted to see anyway. We both liked it.
On Saturday we slept in and went out to his house and painted and listened to records. We went to Davis and had food at the Nepalese place. We went back to my place to go to Emily's house for her birthday/Valentine's Day party but Ben had been coming down with a cold and it was getting worse so I went over by myself for an hour and saw a bunch of people that I like. Emily always makes a ton of snacks, she had cheeses and guacamole and cupcakes and olives and figs and some really good grapefruit punch. I brought her a bottle of Rose Champaign that I had had a glass of at home but didn't want to finish and Ben wouldn't drink because of being sick- I'd like to get another bottle of it- it was really good. It would have been classier to have brought an unopened bottle- oh well!
Anyway after a glass of champaign and a couple of refills in the punch cup I said goodbye to everyone. Ben and I watched the 5th Harry Potter movie and cuddled with chocolate and tea and went to bed.
Today I am going to my grandma's to do my mom's hair. My brother is coming over with his ex girlfriend. No one is sure if they're dating again and I've never met her so I'd like to meet her because they dated for like 2 years. Plus my brother described her as having a 'weirdly shaped body' and being a 'redheaded Mexican'. Ooookay.
It's really pouring down rain today and windy and cold and I don't want to go outside... I'm gonna go now though because it's not as heavy and I want to scavenge food from my family's lunches haha.
